The relationship between knowledge, motivation and availability of facilities with the compliance of health workers in the application of the universal precaution principle at the Putri Ayu Health Center, Jambi City in 2021

ABSTRACT

Health workers have a high risk of receiving exposure to diseases due to infections that can threaten their safety at work. WHO recorded cases of nosocomial infection in the world in the form of transmission of hepatitis B as many as 66,000 cases, hepatitis C as many as 16,000 and 10,000 cases of HIV transmission. Nurses' non-compliance in applying universal precautions in providing nursing care can increase the impact of nosocomial infections. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge, motivation and availability of facilities with the compliance of health workers in the application of the principle of universal precaution.
This research is an analytic descriptive study with a cross sectional design. This research was conducted on August 2-11, 2021. The population in this study were all health workers who had direct contact with patients at the Putri Ayu Health Center, Jambi City in 2021, totaling 59 people. The sample in this study were 38 people who were taken by purposive sampling technique. Data was collected by filling out a questionnaire. Data were analyzed by univariate and bivariate.
The results showed that most of the respondents had good knowledge as many as 28 respondents (73.7%), had high motivation as many as 21 respondents (55.3%), said that the availability of facilities was 28 respondents (73.7%) and did not comply in the application principle of universal precaution as many as 20 respondents (52.6%. There is no relationship between knowledge (p = 0.290), motivation (p = 0.344) and availability of facilities (p = 0.568) with the compliance of health workers in applying the principle of universal precaution because p value = > 0.05. The results of this study indicate that there is no relationship between knowledge, motivation and availability of facilities with the compliance of health workers in the application of universal precaution.
For this reason, it is hoped that it can improve the compliance of health workers by conducting work supervision so that all interventions carried out in the room can be better monitored and sanctions if they violate standard operating procedures.
